Stockton PRU Project
Protein has just returned from a three-week project based in Stockton-on-Tees, working in partnership with ARC Stockton and Bishopton PRU.
Over the course of this intensive residency, we collaborated with the students from Bishopton PRU to create a brand new piece of dance theatre this is us, performed at ARC Stockton alongside artists from Protein. Influenced by Border Tales, created by Luca Silvestrini in 2013, this performance takes an ironic yet moving look at identity and the way we are perceived by others.
this is us is the ninth young people’s project Protein has run nationwide as part of its Real Life, Real Dance programme.

Care Home tour - Autumn 2017
Protein recently worked in partnership with DanceEast to tour an adaption of May Contain Food to Care Homes across rural Suffolk. Re-imagined as May Contain You, the tour acted as a pilot project testing and exploring whether the adaptation has the ability to reach new audiences that would otherwise have limited opportunities to engage with the arts.
The performance was re-devised as a two person show which responded to each new setting whilst maintaining its characteristic playfulness, and pre and post show participatory activities were delivered alongside it.
Auditions
Luca Silvestrini's Protein is auditioning dancers for a variety of projects during 2017 and beyond.
We are looking for technically strong, versatile performers who are experienced with, and have skills in, devising and contact work. Performers should also demonstrate proficiency in working with voice and text.
We welcome applicants from diverse range of cultural and dance backgrounds.
Please send one headshot, a short biography, a maximum of two video links of recent work and a letter of interest to proteinaudition@live.com by Friday 24th February 2017.
Successful applicants will be invited to audition/workshops at the beginning of March.

Generate Community Project 2016
This Summer Luca and Protein dancer Kip Johnson spent two weeks in Wadebridge, Cornwall to create a large scale outdoor performance with members of the local community. It involved 76 performers (aged 4 months old to octogenarians) who took part in the creative process and on Saturday 7 July animated the streets of Wadebridge, including its old train station, with a stunning finale in the Town Hall. Generate was part of Salt Festival 2016.

On Monday 18 April 2016, an extract of Border Tales was filmed by BBC World Service as part of their 'Identity Day'. Performed in the iconic art deco Radio Theatre in Old Broadcasting House, it was shown on BBC channels around the world, including BBC Africa, BBC Persian, BBC China and BBC Arabic.
Year 5 Primary School Pupils Review May Contain Food!
Are you curious to know what 10 year olds think of May Contain Food? During our Spring 2016 tour Protein performed May Contain Food at Bury St Edmunds Festival, where a team of young critics from Woolpit Primary Academy came to review the show.
The show was very comical and included music, opera, dance and awesome acting! Another fun part was that we got to taste food in weird ways like rolling cherry tomatoes on our faces then eating it.
Oliver H, age 10
All the music was cleverly created through the performers singing, mouth movements, tinfoil and other kitchen utensils.
