There and Here wins Community Project of the Year
Winners were announced at The Stage Awards ceremony held at Theatre Royal Dury Lane.
Part of our Real Life Real Dance programme, There and Here is a co-created dance project featuring 21 displaced people from 10 different countries inspired by their talents and lived experiences. The project included 11 taster workshops and welcome meetings attended by 134 with around 450 hot, freshly prepared lunches provided for participants during the residency. There and Here was performed at The Place (London) in April 2022 attended by an invited audience of over 300 people and the documentary film about the process premiered at Woolwich Works, celebrated by 130 people as part of Refugee Week 2022.
The Stage Awards judging panel commented that they were particularly impressed with There and Here’s transformational impact on the lives of those involved, enhancing linguistic skill, combating isolation, improving self-expression and allowing them to be seen and heard.
Protein was honoured to be shortlisted alongside so many fantastic projects. On behalf of all our partners and participants, we are so proud the project has been recognised by The Stage.
The project would not have been possible without the financial support of The Rebecca Dykes Foundation and Arts Council England and the partnership of Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants, The Place, Woolwich Works, Migrant Help UK, Berkeley Group, The British Red Cross and Care4Calais.
